siamese cat

When you choose a Siamese cat as your pet, you will get an intelligent, agile, friendly, and a little mischievous cat, but those blue eyes will never let you forget them! However, before you welcome them as a member of your family, it is essential to know what it takes to take care of a Siamese cat.

Domestic cats have a much higher lifespan compared to other pets. To be precise, this cat can live to be about 20 years old, but of course, for your Siamese cat to remain a loyal partner for a long time, you need to give it the attention it needs according to its characteristics.

Here are some tips to help you out!

Feeding

Siamese kittens need to be fed their mother’s milk for at least the first three months of their life. If this is not possible and they are in human hands, they should be bottle-fed. This way, they can get the nutrients they need to get through this delicate period and grow strong.

Once this phase is over, you can start feeding specific foods to young cats. This is important because they need to adapt to solid foods gradually through kitten food or wet kitten food.

After that, you can switch to adult cat food; it contains the necessary nutrients and vitamins to meet the needs of the times. Don’t forget that these cats love turkey and slices of ham, so it’s okay to give them a treat once in a while.

Continuing with the nutrition theme, now we will focus on older cats. At this stage, they also need a diverse diet. In old age, physical activity decreases. To prevent overweight, food calories need to be lowered.

Hair Care for Siamese Cats

If there is one thing that is attractive about Siamese cats, it is the softness of their hair. To maintain this, they need to be brushed regularly. If your cat is used to being brushed from an early age, daily brushing will be very easy. If not, this task should be done two to three times a week.

By combing your Siamese cat, you can remove all the dead hair. This will prevent them from swallowing it when they lick it or forming a hairball in their stomach. At the same time, it will also reduce the amount of hair loss in the house.

Additionally, if you want to maintain the density and luster of your Siamese cat’s coat, it is best to feed them food rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Quality foods and wet cat foods already contain this. However, you can also provide them in a more natural form, such as fish.

Bathing is not necessary. Fresh air is available, and if your cat is very dirty, you can bath it once every two to three months. However, this is not a pleasant experience for the animal. Therefore, it is necessary to get them used to water from an early age.

Socialization

Cats are solitary animals, but they mature after becoming accustomed to their environment. This socialization helps it adapt to its environment, including its own family, other animals, different people, places, and sounds.

Socialization begins practically from birth, and this is because they start to interact with their peers and their mother and siblings. This is very necessary for the animal to develop a balanced personality, and it also ensures that the animal will not develop fears, phobias, or aggression in the long run.

For these reasons, and because of the importance of maternal nutrition, keeping a cat with its parents is one of the first considerations in caring for a Siamese cat (or any cat).
