There is no shortage of dog food in the world. But, if you really love your pooch and you want him to eat only super healthy and nutrient-rich foods, how about preparing it yourself?

Healthy and Homemade Dog Food Recipe (Part 1)

Healthy and Homemade Dog Food Recipe (Part 1)Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Three potatoes
  • Two tablespoons of olive oil
  • Two salmon portions (with the skin on)
  • One squash
  • One head of broccoli (with stem)
  • Two carrots

Instructions to make the recipe:

Step 1:

Peel the carrots, cut the broccoli and cut the squash. (You can also keep the peelings as this meal is going to be for your dog). Combine the vegetables together. And, for the cooking method, it’s completely up to you. You can either bake the vegetables in the oven or steam them in a rice cooker.

Step 2:

After putting one tablespoon of olive oil into the air fryer (or placing it in the oven), start frying the potato shavings.

Step 3:

Now take out a pan, pour one tablespoon of olive oil and fry the salmon with the skin on. You may start at a medium temperature and with the skin facing side down on the pan. After a few seconds, you can turn the salmon and let the other side cook. You can also remove the crispy salmon skin off the salmon and place it on top of your dog’s food.

Step 4:

Once all the cooking is done, let the mixture cool for around 10-15 minutes. Then, combine all the vegetables and salmon in your dog’s bowl. If you want, you can also chop the mixture to small bitesize.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • A half-cup of peas, canned or frozen
  • One zucchini, shredded
  • Two carrots, shredded
  • Three cups of baby spinach, chopped
  • One tablespoon of olive oil
  • Three pounds of ground turkey
  • Eleven and a half cups of brown rice

Instructions to make the recipe:

Step 1:

Start by taking a large saucepan and pouring three cups of water and the rice and let it cook as per the package instructions or as per how you usually cook your rice.

Step 2:

While the rice is being cooked, take a large stockpot and heat some olive oil (an alternative would be using the Dutch oven and set it a medium heat). You can add the ground turkey and let it cook for about 4-6 minutes or until it’s brown and juicy.

Step 3:

Next, add in the spinach, zucchini, peas, carrots and the brown rice. Let it cook for 4-5 minutes or until the spinach has wilted and the peas and carrots are well-cooked.

Step 4:

Let the mixture cool off and then pour it into your dog’s bowl.

Healthy and Homemade Dog Food Recipe (Part 3)Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Two large chicken breasts that should be cut into 4-6 pieces each
  • Two cups of sweet potato, cubed
  • Two pounds of frozen mixed vegetables (including peas, carrots, green beans or corns)
  • 2 1/2 cups of water
  • One cup of brown rice

Instructions to make the recipe:

Step 1:

In a slow cooker, pour the water, the brown rice, the sweet potatoes, the chicken pieces and finally the mixed veggies. Let the chicken be covered with the rice and vegetables. If you’ll cook it on high heat, it will take you five hours, but if it’s cooked on low heat, it will take you around 7-8 hours. Up to you to decide!

Step 2:

Once you’ve removed it from the slow cooker, find the chicken and shred it. Stir into rice and veggie mixture properly to distribute everything evenly.

Step 3:

Let the mixture cool down and then pour it into a container and store in the fridge for around 3 days.

Step 4:

When it’s eating time, remove it from the fridge and serve to your dog.
